Originally launched as a monthly short form horror publication by Barry Skelhorn in 2012, Sanitarium Magazine saw over 50 issues printed during its run. Sanitarium has since changed ownership—helmed by Caitlin Marceau, Ian Sputnik, Brooke Warra, and Michael Brueggeman as of 2018—and expanded its offerings.
In addition to an annual publication, Sanitarium is proud to publish anthologies, collections of short fiction, and larger bodies of work in both print and digital editions (check out our submissions page for all the details). You can also find writing resources, reviews, op-eds, and think pieces on horror media here on our site (find out how you can get involved here).
At Sanitarium, we believe writing—and horror—should be accessible to everyone. While we’re a publishing house, we’re first and foremost a community for horror fans and creators. Here we encourage diversity, inclusivity, and aim to make this a safe space for literary experimentation and self-expression.
